São José do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

São José do Norte is a historic city in the extreme south of Brasil. It is located on a sandbar that separates the Atlantic Ocean and the Lagoa dos Patos (the Ducks’ Lagoon), which is one of the largest lagoons on earth. This isolating geographical condition made the city important during the Revolução Farroupilha (Ragamuffin War).
